The biggest marketing mistake…lack of clarity.
Lack of clarity can happen in two different ways, not enough information and too much information.
Imagine that you stop for coffee and the menu reads Coffee #1, Coffee #2, Coffee #3 and Coffee #4. Which coffee would you buy? I don’t know about you, but it would annoy me to have to ask about each of the javas to make my decision.
Or what if the menu contained a full description of where and how the coffee was sourced, how each of the ingredients was acquired and the exact recipe for each brew? It would be overwhelming!
A menu that’s too vague leaves customers frustrated, while one that overwhelms them with details can drive them away. It’s about giving just enough context for potential clients to understand and engage without feeling lost or overwhelmed.
As a business owner, sometimes it’s hard to tell if you are giving enough information or too much.
Not sure if this applies to you? Try this.
Find someone you know but is not familiar with your business. In one sentence, tell them what you do. If you can’t tell them in one sentence, then you may lack the clarity necessary to entice people to engage with you. If they look confused, then you are probably confusing your potential clients.
If you can’t convey your message succinctly, it’s a sign that you may need to refine your understanding of your business and its value.
Clarity follows self-awareness. Once you know who you are and what you stand for, it becomes easier to craft a message that resonates. This authenticity not only attracts the right clients but also fosters deeper, more meaningful connections. It increases the chances of finding vibrationally aligned clients.
One way to gain clarity is the “I Am” Challenge.
Write down 100 “I Am” statements. It can be anything that you believe to be true for you right now.
Then, write down another 100 “I Am” statements, and this time make statements about you in the future. These statements are not necessarily 100% true now, but they reflect who you would like to become.
This challenge will not only provide clarity on who you are, it will also give you clarity on who you are not. It’s amazing what you will learn about yourself.
Now take it a step further. Choose your top three statements from each list.
For example, mine might be…
- I am honest.
- I am persistent.
- I am confident.
- I am creating the life I want.
- I am committed to being authentic.
- I am happy to be a work in progress.
I feel good about this list. If I can convey these qualities in my marketing, then the people who also value these things would be a good fit for my business.
